چکیده
Objective: Alcoholism is associated with genetic variants of genes related to alcohol metabolizing enzymes, dopaminergic, gamma-aminobutyric acidergic, glutamatergic, opioid, cholinergic, and serotonergic systems. Neurpeptide Y system and Neurexins were shown to be associated with alcohol dependence. Recent studies identified new genetic polymorphisms related to endogenous cannabinoid system, neuropetide Y and neurexin. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the association of Neurpeptide Y LEU7PRO rs16139 and neurexin 3 gene rs760288 polymorphisms with alcohol dependence in patients with alcohol dependence and healthy control subjects. Methods: 123 patients who were diagnosed with alcohol dependence according to the DSM-IV criteria and 159 healthy volunteers were included in the study. Blood samples were used to investigate polymorphisms. The genotyping of the neurexin 3 gene rs760288 and the neuropetide Y gene Leu7Pro rs16139 polymorphisms was performed using TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assays Real-Time PCR System. Results: Of the 2 genetic polymorphisms investigated in the present study, we detected association between and neurexin 3 gene rs760288 polymorphisms with alcohol dependence. Conclusions: Neurexin gene polymorphisms might be an important factor in development of alcohol addiction.

A functional neuropeptide Y Leu7Pro polymorphism associated with alcohol dependence in a large population sample from the United States.
BACKGROUND Quantitative trait locus studies, and observations in animals manipulated for the neuropeptide Y (NPY) gene suggest that variation within this gene may contribute to alcoholism. A recent population study suggested that the Pro7 allele of a functional NPY polymorphism (Leu7Pro) may be associated with increased alcohol consumption. We tested whether the Pro7 allele is associated with a...

BACKGROUND Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is known to play a role in the regulation of satiety, energy balance, body weight, and insulin release. Interleukin-1beta (IL1B) has been associated with loss of beta-cell mass in type-II diabetes (TIID). OBJECTIVES The present study attempts to investigate the association of NPY exon2 +1128 T/C (Leu7Pro; rs16139), NPY promoter -399 T/C (rs16147) and IL1B -511 ...
متن کاملAssociation of PPARγ2 (Pro12Ala) and Neuropeptide Y (Leu7Pro) Gene Polymorphisms with Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Obese Asian Indians
BACKGROUND Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is prevalent in 7.5% in urban Asian Indians. Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma2 (PPARγ2) has been implicated in adipocyte differentiation. Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is also considered as a candidate gene for excess body fat accumulation. The association of PPARγ2 (Pro12Ala)} and NPY (Leu7Pro) gene polymorphisms with OSA has not been studied in ...
متن کاملEpistatic interaction between beta2-adrenergic receptor and neuropeptide Y genes influences LDL-cholesterol in hypertension.
Beta2-adrenergic receptor gene and neuropeptide Y gene may potentially influence lipid metabolism and overall energy balance. Therefore, we examined associations of these genes with lipid fractions and obesity-related phenotypes in hypertensive subjects. A total of 638 white individuals from 212 Polish families with clustering of essential hypertension were phenotyped for cardiovascular risk de...
متن کاملNeuropeptide Y receptor genes are associated with alcohol dependence, alcohol withdrawal phenotypes, and cocaine dependence.
BACKGROUND Several lines of evidence in both human and animal studies suggest that variation in neuropeptide Y (NPY) or its receptor genes (NPY1R, NPY2R and NPY5R) is associated with alcohol dependence as well as alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Additional studies suggest that cocaine may affect NPY expression. METHODS A total of 39 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were genotyped across NPY...
